Dear Parents,

As we move towards the end of the academic year, we are focused on making good assessments of the progress that the children have made since September. Teachers are working hard to write a helpful summary for each of you about what your child has achieved, how your child seems to learn best, but also how they are developing as people; I’m really looking forward to reading these reports too. I know that so many of them will be full of wonderful examples of children demonstrating determination, effort, empathy and respect. Of course we also have to submit end of key stage assessments to the Department for Education for children in Years 2 and 6. As part of the national quality assurance, we were selected to have a sample of our Year 6 children’s writing moderated this week. It was just great to be told how creative the children’s writing was, as well as to be praised as a school for ensuring children learnt to love writing. The visiting consultants commented that they’d really enjoyed reading the children’s work, and particularly noted the pride that each child clearly demonstrated in their finished, published writing. It was a super endorsement of our cross-curricular approach and our school ethos.

One important aspect of this creative curriculum involves our exciting trips. Year 2 this week enjoyed an inspiring day out at the London Natural History Museum; they are now busily planning their own dinosaur exhibition to rival the one up in London. Year 6 meanwhile are getting excited about their residential visit to Shropshire next week. One of the highlights of that trip is the Victorian school room with its particularly strict teachers. We’re all looking forward to getting into role!

It’ll be exciting to be at the starting line for the first HTPD fun run this Sunday. I’m so thrilled with the number of children taking part. It’s great to be part of such a vibrant community, and it’s sure to be a great way to raise funds as well as having a good time together. Last weekend’s summer fair at the infants was also a huge success. Thank you to everyone who took part in that, and especially to the FOPS organisers who worked so hard to make it happen - and thanks too for the fantastic sum of around £2300 which was raised.

Year R trip to the The Look Out Discovery Centre, Wednesday 22 June
Year R are looking forward to their trip next Wednesday. If you have not already done so, please return your permission slip and payment to the school office as soon as possible.


Club cancellations, Thursday 23 June
Play in Reception with Sian and Outside Fun with Nicola are both cancelled next Thursday.

Ballet Club show
Parents are invited to the Ballet Club show on Thursday 7 July at 3.30pm.

Y2 Swimming Kit
If your child has borrowed some of our spare swimming kit, please would you wash and return it as our supplies are running low.

Water bottles
Please remember to send your child to school with a water bottle every day, especially in the warmer weather, as well as a sun hat and an application of sun cream as necessary.

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended and helped out with the summer fair last weekend. Despite the changeable weather, it was a really fun and entertaining afternoon that the whole school community enjoyed. We are also delighted to say that the event raised in the region of £2300 for the school – a fantastic sum. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Thank you to all the parents, teachers and friends of the school that were able to attend the unveiling of the Mini Moo Cow at Kokomo’s last Thursday night.

HTPD Fun Run

Duncan Rosie who is organising Sunday's HTPD Fun Run has asked for some volunteers to help out with the race in Sutherland Park from 1-3pm. It would be great to get some more parents from Pewley involved to make it a truly joint venture. If you can help for just a couple of hours please email him on   HTPDfunrun@gmail.com

HTPD FUN RUN - SUTHERLAND PARK - SUNDAY 19 JUNE
We are looking forward to seeing all the keen fun runners at the Fun Run on Sunday.
Reception – Year 2 will start at 2pm. Year 3 – Year 6 will start at 2.30pm.
There will be a warm up 15 minutes before each race, so please arrive in plenty of time.

SUMMER FAIR – THE ROAD TO RIO SUMMER CARNIVAL – FRIDAY 1 JULY
Raffle Tickets
Please look out for the Summer Fair raffle tickets which should have come home with your children this week. There are great prizes to be won including the top prize of an Ipad mini kindly donated by our Summer Fair sponsor Cavenders.
Donation day – Friday 24 June
Please bring in the following next Friday (24 June):
Bottles - Any type of bottles for the Bottle Tombola from champagne to tomato ketchup!
Jolly Bags or Jars - Decorated jars/bags filled with small toys/sweets.
Hamper donations - Please see separate parentmails from your class reps about what is needed.
Teddies - Any unwanted teddy bears in good condition for the teddy tombola/hook a teddy stall.

Year 6 donations can be brought in anytime during the week before the Fair (Tuesday 27 June onwards) if it is not possible to drop them next Friday due to the Preston Montford trip.
Please note that Donation Day will NOT be a mufti day this year.

Help – we need you!
Please come and help if you can with the preparation for the Summer Fair. We need lots of help on:
Donation Day (Friday 24 June) - to help sort and organise donations (straight after drop-off - 8.40am).
Summer Fair (Friday 1 July) - to help during the day, setting up the Fair, decorating the school, helping on the allocated stalls for your year group and clearing up.

External Stalls
There are still several slots free for the external stalls. If you would like a stall at the Fair or know of anyone who would like to have a stall, please email Jo Burne (joburne@yahoo.co.uk).

Would you like to know more about the forthcoming Olympics in Rio next month? Bramley Infant School has arranged an evening with Mark England, Head (chef de mission) of Team GB, and a parent at Bramley. Mark is offering his time for a fascinating evening, and will give an insight into the Olympics and our Team GB. The evening will commence at 7.30 p.m. on Thursday, 14th July and is open to children as well as adults. St. Catherine’s School in Bramley has kindly donated their auditorium for the event and will open the on-site bar for the intermission.
