Infant 13/6/14

13 June 2014

Dear parents

We are all really enjoying the warm weather at HTPD. It is remarkable how we are affected by the weather. Windy seems to make children highly active, drizzle – downbeat and sunshine – happy and enthusiastic. I guess it’s all to do with our endorphin or melatonin levels. Pewley Down have been supplementing these with exercise, which can produce the same results. It is our healthy schools weeks there; so during the week the children have been engaged in Boogy pumps, skipping workshop, making fruit kebabs, making use of new playground and the field. Their literacy and maths lesson have also been tied into the theme.

Another year group which have been expending a great deal of energy are Year 6. I joined them on their journey to Preston Montford near Shrewesbury. They all made some great visits and did long walks as well as a detailed study of a highland stream. Their energy and initiative was tremendous.

I am sure you will all be interested to hear which teachers are teaching in which classes from September. The children will be told their classes nearer the end of term. Friendship requests will be sorted out next week.

Year R: Sian Stanley and Sarah McKenzie
Year 1: Sheena Preston and Emily Russell / Clare Brunet or Nicola Bridal

Best wishes,
Richard

Healthy Week
A big ‘thank you’ to Julia for organising such an exciting and varied week. The children have learned a lot about the importance of exercise and how to keep healthy. They have taken part in activities ranging from skipping workshops and football on the field, to athletics / games in the hall and making fruit kebabs and smoothies (and tried to drink plenty of water).

FOPS NEWS

Summer Fair - THANK YOU! Thank you for your support on Sunday at the Summer Fair. It was lovely to get together as a school community and enjoy the sunshine. In the process, we managed to raise about £2,700! This should go a long way towards the projects to renew the IT infrastructure in the class rooms and buy new reading books. A huge thank you to the Class Reps, FOPS Committee and all those parents who helped on stalls and with setting up and clearing away. Thank you too to parents and grandparents who donated their time and talents to make it a really special event.

Day Out At Fisher's Farm and a Pizza?
We still have a few bargains left from the Tree of Promises stall. Are you thinking about a day out at Fisher's Farm over the summer holidays? We have three vouchers (cannot be used together) for half price entry for one child or adult worth about £6.50 each. Are you planning on getting in some pizzas next weekend? We also have six vouchers for a large pizza from Papa Johns. These vouchers expire on 22 June. All these vouchers are available for a donation of £1 each (or more if you wish) on a first come first serve basis from the School Office.

Message from Zoe Kay (Hugh’s mum, Chestnut Class):
GLive Ambassador needed

Due to a move out of the area, a parent is needed to represent Pewley as a Parent Ambassador. GLive are keen to establish links with local schools and promote themselves. A couple of times a year, the marketing team host a morning meeting for an hour where they do some market research (such as what shows you see, would like to see, ideas for what they could do for holiday activities, where they should advertise etc). It's very relaxed with coffee and cake. I have also attended an evening drinks reception, where they welcomed feedback and ideas and then saw a complementary show. It is also useful to get tickets for the school raffle and auction and to find out about special offers which parents and children can benefit from. If you're interested, get in touch (via the school office) and I'll forward your details to the marketing department.
