22 June 2012

Dear Parents

A really great part of my job is the variety that each day brings. Today started with an inspection of the long jump pit at Holy Trinity to make sure it was safe for all the Pewley Down children. It was, so I was able to briefly join the staff breakfast before Assembly. Assembly is always a high point of the day in both schools. This week we have been thinking about our talents and why we should use them. Children had written in to us about their own talents and how they can be used. This was all based around our theme of Joseph. This week featured his organisational skill in saving and rationing during the famine in Egypt.

Another change of gear saw me head off to a headteachers’ meeting of five local school heads at George Abbot. We had been called together to discuss the best way to help and support local schools which get into difficulty. There is a really close relationship between local schools and their headteachers’ as we work together to bring the best education to the children of our area.

Back to school for an hour long meeting with our new bursar, Lesley. I enjoy spending money, but not the real nitty gritty of accounting for each penny, which is why we employ experts. We have a budget approaching £2 million and employ about a hundred people, so it is quite a job.

At lunch time I was sorting in-service training for the rest of the term, as well as phoning several parents.

After lunch a high point was working with some year three children, including listening to some excellent readers from 3G and looking at some geography work from 3S. It is just great to see children making real and measurable progress.

And now it’s a really happy Friday afternoon in school. Parents working towards tonight’s fair, children working hard in so many ways always being encouraged and led by our committed staff.

So another great day, no dramas or problems, just solid good quality learning, caring and living together in our sharing community. I feel humbled and proud to be able to work for and lead such a great school.

With Best Wishes
Richard

It would be great to have a new Committee signed up early so that you can hit the ground running in September !! We are still in need of a Chair for next year. Please feel free to email/speak to me (louise.keiller@gmx.com) if you are considering this role - happy to answer any questions - and there is loads of info available in the FOPS files to help!

New classes:   Following the ‘move up’ morning yesterday we hope your children have told you which class they will be in next year and who their new teacher will be.

Olympic Pentathlon:   Today we launched our pentathlon with an exciting visit to Holy Trinity to take part in the long jump. We are looking forward to our other pentathlon races on Sports Day.

Sweet Sale:   We had our sweet sale this afternoon and all children were able to choose sweets with their 30p. If your child did forget the 30p we would be grateful if you could drop it into the office next week. The Sweet Sale was organised by the School Council to raise money for new playground markings.
