06 July 2018

Dear Parents and Carers,

Phew! It’s been so hot in school this week! The children have amazed us with their ability to keep going and still make the most of every moment for learning with temperatures reaching the thirties. Everyone does seem tired and ready for the final fortnight before the holidays, although the quality of work hasn’t dropped off at all! Hopefully a weekend of rest will rejuvenate all of us.

Year 3 in particular will need a good sleep tomorrow night – they’re spending Friday night at school at their sleepover. They’ve had a super day of activities on The Downs and will soon be arriving back at school for a yummy barbeque and an evening full of fun!

The dinosaur museum in Year 2 today was simply stunning. Thank you so much to all those who came along – it made for a genuine museum atmosphere, providing a real audience for our Year 2 expert palaeontologists, historians and artists. Thanks too to the Year 2 staff for providing such a great opportunity for showcasing our topic-based curriculum at its best. Do remember that all the year groups will be celebrating the term’s learning at this year’s Celebration Afternoon on Monday 16th (1.30pm at the infants and 2pm at the juniors); do come along if you can!

Also at the infants this week, we were delighted to welcome our new Reception children for their first proper visit. They seemed to settle in so quickly, as did those children who moved into Y1 and Y2 to try out their new classes. We are always amazed to see the readiness that the children show in pluckily moving along the corridor and greeting their new classmates, “embracing the future with hope and confidence”. We’re looking forward to doing the same next week at the juniors. Do encourage the children to look forward positively to the change, helping them to overcome any nerves!

In this hot weather, can I ask parents to turn off their engines when waiting to pick children up. I know it’s tempting to keep the air-con running while you wait, but this has been shown to really cause problems with air quality at the school gate and cause children, particularly those with asthma already, to find it difficult to breathe. Also, please remember to park respectfully and consider our neighbours, especially those in Cline Road at the junior site. The turning circle must be kept free and the double yellow lines and driveways should not be used. Thank you for your help with this.

Have a good weekend – and enjoy the football!

With best wishes, Clare

Due to other commitments some of the existing committee (including the current chairs) will have to step down next year. If we are to carry on raising money for our school and providing vital resources as well as some lovely ‘extras’ for our children, then we urgently NEED:

The current committee have promised to be on standby to answer questions and help out as much as possible. If you’d like an informal chat about what the role involves, please contact Laura: laurasabster@yahoo.co.uk (NO PRESSURE!!)

Class reps: thanks to those who have already been in touch about being class reps next year but we need more across all classes. This is a great way of getting to meet new people and getting involved with our events and activities. No previous experience needed!

HTSC News

HT WORLD CUP SUMMER FAIR - THANK YOU!
A massive thank you to everyone who helped at last week’s Summer Fair. We had amazing weather, there was a great atmosphere and it was lovely to see the children having such a brilliant time. Our initial estimates show that we raised over £4,600 which is a fantastic result – thank you for all your support.

A special thanks also to Cavenders Sales & Lettings who sponsored our top raffle prize of an Apple watch.

CLASS REPS NEXT ACADEMIC YEAR
A huge thank you to all the class reps for all they have done this year. We have had some fabulous events and raised a fantastic amount of much needed money for the school.

You will soon know which class your child is going to be in next year and perhaps you might consider taking on the role of class rep? The support from this team of volunteers is particularly important when it comes to organising our main events, as HTSC really wouldn’t function without them. If you would like to know more about what the role involves or volunteer your services, please contact Ros Vickerman rosalindvickerman@yahoo.com
