HTPD 8/7/16

08 July 2016

Dear Parents,

Well, the Year 2 dinosaur museum lived up to my high expectations – what a stunning exhibition of creativity and excellence! All the children were so proud to be able to show their parents, younger visitors, and members of staff around the exhibits. It really reminded all of us of the importance of giving learning a real life application. Huge thanks to the children for their efforts, as well as to all the staff involved for theirs! This sort of event will hopefully remain in the children’s minds as a positive memory of their time at primary school.

Year 3 have also had a great day so far today and are now heading back to school for their sleep over. Let’s hope a day in the open air will have tired them out so that they do manage to sleep! Again, providing the children with the opportunity to spend a day in the outdoors with their friends will hopefully ensure they look back on school life fondly.

The next two weeks are going to be full of similar memory-makers, starting with Sports Day on Tuesday, an annual occasion in which all the children participate. Please do come along and join us, with the infants competing in the morning and the juniors in the afternoon. The following week we’ll be focusing on the Year 2 and Year 6 leavers at their leavers’ assemblies and services, as well as showing off all the children’s work at our Celebration Afternoon (Monday 18th).

Year 6 are looking forward to the Trinity Trek next Friday – another opportunity to mark the end of their time at the school. We’d really appreciate Y6 parent helpers to join in the day, especially once the children arrive at Bentley Copse to start cooking their food at around 4pm.

People keep asking me if we’re winding down for the summer holidays – and I reply with a light-hearted, “No, we’re winding up!”, but actually I wouldn’t have it any other way. Marking the end of the academic year is an important process; finishing well being a really positive way to move on to something new.

With best wishes, Clare

Celebration Afternoon, Monday 18 July
Everyone is invited to come and enjoy the children’s work in the classrooms on Monday 18 July.
Pewley Down: 1.15 to 2.15 pm
Holy Trinity: 2.15 to 3.15pm.
Please let your child’s teacher know when you are ready to go home.

INFANT

Sports Day, Tuesday 12 July, 9.15 am
Please wait up on the field after drop-off; we aim to start at 9.15 am. Children will be sitting in their house groups and these areas will be clearly marked. Please stand at the outside edges of the field to watch your children. All children should come to school in their PE KIT (house T shirt, shorts and well-fitting trainers) on Tuesday. PE kits will be sent home before sports day. Please also ensure that your child has a water bottle and sun hat in school that day.

Chestnut Class packed lunch, Wednesday 13 July
A reminder that Chestnut Class will need to bring a packed lunch from home on Wednesday owing to the move-up morning.

Languages Afternoon Tea, Friday 15 July, 2.00pm
Are you or your children bi-lingual, multi-lingual or do you speak English as an additional language? We are celebrating the many languages of Pewley Down with our Afternoon Tea next Friday, and hope to bring together any parents that speak more than one language. Please join us for tea and biscuits and the opportunity to chat to old friends, meet new friends and talk to our staff. If you don’t speak another language but would like to meet and offer your friendship to our wide and varied school community, come along too and make some new Pewley friends. Everyone is welcome.

Golden Boot Challenge
Well done to everyone for taking part in the Golden Boot challenge so enthusiastically this year. In the end it was very close but Beech Class were the absolute winners with the biggest improvement in green methods of travel. They received the Golden Boot trophy and stickers for all the children. Chestnut Class were runners up and received stickers.

Water Bottles
Harrisons, our caterers, are donating water bottles to the school - one for each child. We are very keen that all children should have a water bottle in school every day, but please only bring these into school once they have been named.

Run to Rio update
The updated total for week 11 is: 4945 miles.

Lost
May Rogers, Beech Class, has lost her named Nightingale house t-shirt which seems to have gone missing during ballet club.

Pewley Summer Festival
We are looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Saturday from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm for the first Pewley Summer Festival, to celebrate the end of a fantastic school year. This event is for the whole family, with an alfresco disco with bubbles on the school field. Bring a picnic and enjoy the music, treats from the tuck shop and refreshments at the bar. This is a great chance to wish the Year 2 families a fond farewell as they move to junior school.

Tickets request forms have been sent out in book bags, but are available from Ruth at the office. Submitted forms will be added to the guest list or tickets can be purchased on the door. We ask, if possible, that people walk to school, but if you need to travel by car please be considerate to our neighbourhood and park away from the school.

Class Reps for next year
We are looking for class reps for September. We really can't manage without them! The role involves putting together a contact list, arranging occasional coffee mornings and nights out, co-ordinating rotas for the fairs and being a link person between your class and FOPS. You don't have to host coffee mornings at your home - a coffee shop is just as good. It is also not necessary to attend every FOPS meeting. Over the course of your child's time at HTPD, 14 parents from your child's class will have to volunteer for this role, so please think about taking a turn if you haven't already. If you can send an email and arrange to meet friends for a coffee you have all the necessary skills! We are looking to both mums and dads, so if you would like to become a class rep or get involved in FOPS in any other way, please speak to Nicci, Jill or Susanne (smw555@hotmail.com).

JUNIOR

Outstanding monies
With only 2 weeks till the end of term, we really need to get accounts settled please – there is a lot of money outstanding across the school which needs to be collected as soon as possible. Invoices will be sent out shortly for anyone owing money to the school, but as this is a very time consuming task, we would appreciate your support. Please could you help us by logging into ParentPay this weekend and settling everything that is outstanding. Clubs+ bills are up to 28/6/2016 and Breakfast bills are only up to 7/7/2016 so if you have used the provision after that, please add extra to cover your costs. Unfortunately ParentPay have been updating the system which means that we have not been able to update lunch and clubs use as frequently as we would have liked to this week. Thank you!

It's also helpful to make sure that you have enough credit on your child's lunch account. (Please note that we will refund any lunch accounts in credit at the end of the term, either by transferring the balance to a sibling or cheque).
