HTPD 22/7/16

22 July 2016

Dear Parents,

It hardly seems possible that my first year as headteacher has come to an end! This week has been amazing; saying goodbye to our Year 6 children and seeing their confidence, vitality and enthusiasm has reminded me once again of the sort of school HTPD is; a place where learning to live is a priority – a place where living life to the full is celebrated, and a place where both tears and laughter can be shared in equal measure.

I do want to share one last piece of sporting good news before we end the term. Some of you may have seen on Twitter that we have been awarded the Gold School Games Mark – do take a look at the details on the website, but it’s a fitting way to end the year and recognises the fantastic efforts of the children and staff. I’m so proud of the fact that 74% of the children take part in extracurricular sport! And the list of competitions entered is really impressive!

So the leavers’ assemblies are over, the cloakrooms are cleared and the trays have been emptied of books. Children have said their goodbyes and looked back on their memories. Of course they’re looking forward to their well-deserved holidays now, but I also hope that come September they will be keen to get stuck in again with their usual zest for learning in their new classes. Best wishes to Year 6 as they start at secondary school. We’ll see Year 3 and their parents at the coffee morning on Monday September 5th at 10.30am, and everyone else (apart from new reception) at 8.40am on Tuesday 6th.

I have felt incredibly supported by so many of you throughout the year and I know that all the staff will want to join me in thanking you for your generosity of time, energy, and gifts as well. What a lovely way to start the summer holidays! Thank you.

With best wishes, Clare

Autumn term starts on Tuesday 6 September (Years 1-6)
and Wednesday 7 September (Year R)

FOPS News

Thank you so so much to everyone who has helped FOPS this year. Together we have raised £8,500 from our various fairs, wreath making workshop, cake sales and joint ventures with HTSC. This money has helped pay for extras big and small - from the canopy for Oak class, the amazing Music Garden and 10 additional iPad minis to sports day lollies and visiting theatre groups. We couldn't do it without you all.

We would also like to thank all the class reps who have done a fantastic job this year.

Next Year’s Class Reps are:
WILLOW Laura Sabharwal
HAZEL Helen Day and Ozzie
OAK Carrie Masson, Louisa Curl, Idit Lewis and Marisa Ciesla
BEECH Saskia
CHESTNUT Sarah Bell
WALNUT Sarah Kilvert
Ideally we like to have at least two class reps per class, so we are still looking to fill a few places. Please contact your current class rep or Susanne smw555@hotmail.com if you would like to volunteer.

Have a great summer holiday and see you in September!

HTSC NEWS

A huge thank you to everyone who has helped out this year whether it was by coming along to events, helping to organise the events, being a class rep or part of the HTSC committee. We have had a very successful year and organised some fantastic events which have been well supported by the HTPD parents, so thank you!

Class Reps
We are urgently seeking class reps for Years 4, 5 and 6 next year.

There are usually two reps per class who provide the vital link between the class and the PTA. The support from this team of volunteers is particularly important when it comes to organising our main events, as the PTA really wouldn’t function without them. We always love to see new faces and hear new ideas. In each year group, we aim to have 6 class reps - ideally at least 2 per class. The class reps in each year group work together as a team sharing the class rep responsibilities and organising socials for each year group as a whole.

If you would like further information, please contact Ros Vickerman, jrvickerman@yahoo.co.uk or Carrie Witts, carriewitts@gmail.com.

Goodbye and Thank You!
We would like to take this opportunity to say goodbye and a massive thank-you to Sue Anderson and Caroline Swift. Sue has been secretary for the last three years and been a fantastic part of the HTSC team. We are also saying a very sad goodbye to Caroline Swift who has been co-chair and chair of HTSC, contributing enormously to the organising and fundraising over many years. Both have made an incredible contribution to HTSC and raised thousands of pounds for the school. We will miss them!

Sponsor
A huge thanks to Cavender Sales & Lettings who have kindly sponsored our big events for a second year running, donating our top prizes or giving a significant donation towards the event.
As well as sponsoring our major events, Cavender Sales & Lettings will donate £150 to the school if you decide to rent your property through them or if you sell a property through them, they will donate £500. So, if you are thinking about either over the summer, please get in contact with them on 01483 457728. www.cavenders.co.uk

HTSC AGM –TUESDAY 13 SEPTEMBER 7.45PM
HTSC’s AGM will take place in the Chapel on Tuesday 13 September, straight after the HT meet the team evening. We will be receiving this year’s accounts and electing the new Committee members for the next academic year

Have a great summer and see you in September!

HTPD 15/7/16

15 July 2016

Dear Parents,

It was great to see so many of you able to join in our Sports Day festivities earlier in the week with every child from Reception to Year 6 showing off their athletic prowess to the cheering crowds. Despite the rain, there were smiling faces all round and I loved seeing the sense of pride the children felt in belonging to the different house teams. That same sense of pride, but this time in their school, was also clear at District Sports where the HTPD team won all four year group competitions and the overall trophy too! Huge congratulations to the children who took part as well as thanks to Laura, Nick and the sports teachers for organising such a successful week of sport!

Today the infants have been celebrating the end of their magnificent Run to Rio, having clocked up enough miles to run all the way to Brazil! It’s been such a super initiative, and the children are definitely fitter and have increased their stamina as a result. That same determination is also being shown by the Year 6 who are right now walking the ten miles to Shere and then to Bentley Copse where they’ll be cooking up their supper – the Trinity Trek is a great achievement and a really lovely way to enjoy time together before heading off on summer holidays at the end of next week.

It’s not just about sport though, and the music recital at the infants this morning was an impressive showcase of talent. I know you’ll also enjoy the Celebration Afternoon on Monday – do try to pop in and look through the work that the children will want to show you (1.15 at the infants, 2pm at the juniors; Year 6 will also be exhibiting their work in the Chapel). They have all worked really hard this year across the whole breadth of the curriculum and it’s great to have an audience with whom to share and talk through their achievements. Feel free too to visit your child’s new classroom and meet their new teacher; that’s an important part of finishing one year well and starting the next in a positive and confident way.

Our assembly theme this week was a concluding summary on how to be happy by being loving. Knowing that every one of us is unique, talented in different ways, and wonderfully made is part of showing how treasured and loved each individual really is.

With best wishes
Clare

Many Hands Make Light Work
If anyone is free on Wednesday evening, can you help a group of parents make superhero reading capes in preparation for Year 1 classes in September. You don’t have to be an ace sewer, as there are a few different tasks. Please contact Susanne smw555@hotmail.com if you are able to help.

Class Reps for next year
Thank you to those of you who have offered to be class reps for September, but we still have several places to fill.

We really can't manage without them! The role involves putting together a contact list, arranging occasional coffee mornings and nights out, co-ordinating rotas for the fairs and being a link person between your class and FOPS. You don't have to host coffee mornings at your home - a coffee shop is just as good. It is also not necessary to attend every FOPS meeting. Over the course of your child's time at HTPD, 14 parents from your child's class will have to volunteer for this role, so please think about taking a turn if you haven't already. If you can send an email and arrange to meet friends for a coffee you have all the necessary skills! We are looking to both mums and dads, so if you would like to become a class rep or get involved in FOPS in any other way, please speak to Nicci, Jill or Susanne smw555@hotmail.com or your current class rep.

HTPD 8/7/16

08 July 2016

Dear Parents,

Well, the Year 2 dinosaur museum lived up to my high expectations – what a stunning exhibition of creativity and excellence! All the children were so proud to be able to show their parents, younger visitors, and members of staff around the exhibits. It really reminded all of us of the importance of giving learning a real life application. Huge thanks to the children for their efforts, as well as to all the staff involved for theirs! This sort of event will hopefully remain in the children’s minds as a positive memory of their time at primary school.

Year 3 have also had a great day so far today and are now heading back to school for their sleep over. Let’s hope a day in the open air will have tired them out so that they do manage to sleep! Again, providing the children with the opportunity to spend a day in the outdoors with their friends will hopefully ensure they look back on school life fondly.

The next two weeks are going to be full of similar memory-makers, starting with Sports Day on Tuesday, an annual occasion in which all the children participate. Please do come along and join us, with the infants competing in the morning and the juniors in the afternoon. The following week we’ll be focusing on the Year 2 and Year 6 leavers at their leavers’ assemblies and services, as well as showing off all the children’s work at our Celebration Afternoon (Monday 18th).

Year 6 are looking forward to the Trinity Trek next Friday – another opportunity to mark the end of their time at the school. We’d really appreciate Y6 parent helpers to join in the day, especially once the children arrive at Bentley Copse to start cooking their food at around 4pm.

People keep asking me if we’re winding down for the summer holidays – and I reply with a light-hearted, “No, we’re winding up!”, but actually I wouldn’t have it any other way. Marking the end of the academic year is an important process; finishing well being a really positive way to move on to something new.

With best wishes, Clare

Outstanding monies
With only 2 weeks till the end of term, we really need to get accounts settled please – there is a lot of money outstanding across the school which needs to be collected as soon as possible. Invoices will be sent out shortly for anyone owing money to the school, but as this is a very time consuming task, we would appreciate your support. Please could you help us by logging into ParentPay this weekend and settling everything that is outstanding. Clubs+ bills are up to 28/6/2016 and Breakfast bills are only up to 7/7/2016 so if you have used the provision after that, please add extra to cover your costs. It's also helpful to make sure that you have enough credit on your child's lunch account. (Please note that we will refund any lunch accounts in credit at the end of the term, either by transferring the balance to a sibling or cheque).

HTPD 1/7/16

01 July 2016

Dear Parents,

This week I attended the Leavers’ Service at Guildford Cathedral together with all of our Year 6 children, hosted by the Diocese. We were praised for our eco-efforts in walking to and from the Cathedral hill and also for the cheerfulness of our children sporting their new leavers’ hoodies in a bright array of colours. Whilst there, the children took part in various activities designed to help them celebrate, reflect and ponder their time at primary school, as well as ask God’s blessing and protection as they move onto secondary school in September. The wonderful thing was that all of our children were able to look forward with confidence, look back with great memories and conduct themselves with reverence and a deep sense of gratitude throughout the afternoon. It made our Year 6 teachers smile that the children found it hard to imagine why they would have any worries! It was good to meet with other church schools from across the region, recognising the number of children who have thrived through their time at primary school supported by the Christian values of kindness, respect, love and empathy – much needed at this time!

We look forward to celebrating with the Year 6 children again nearer to the end of term both at a whole school farewell service at Holy Trinity Church (on 20th July) and also at a special service at St. Mary’s Church (on 19th July) where together with parents, the Year 6 children take part in a wonderful occasion which is always both poignant and joyful!

Meanwhile, all the year groups are still working away at their topics – with mounting excitement as we approach the Dinosaur Museum in Year 2 especially. The creativity and imagination, as well as a sense of purpose is truly inspiring. It promises to be a great occasion!

I’m sure I’ll see many of you at our junior school summer fair this evening – with the clouds starting to break up as I write, I’m hoping it’ll be over a glass on Pimms in the summer sunshine!

With best wishes
Clare

Pewley Summer Festival
A new event to celebrate the end of a fantastic school year, The Pewley Summer Festival is for the whole family with an alfresco disco and bubbles on the school field. Bring a picnic and enjoy the music, treats from the tuck shop and refreshments at the bar. This is a great chance to wish the Year 2 families a fond farewell as they move to junior school. Look out for a ticket request form in book bags.

Class Reps for next year
We are looking for class reps for September. We are looking to both mums and dads, so if you would like to become a class rep or get involved in FOPS in any other way, please speak to Nicci, Jill or Susanne (smw555@hotmail.com).

Bookings must be made either online via the following link:   premiertennis.co.uk/venue/pewley-down-infant-school  or alternatively you can call the Premier Tennis office on 01865 689 754. Outstanding monies

There are now only 3 weeks to the end of term and we would like to get accounts settled please – there is a lot of money outstanding across the school which needs to be collected as soon as possible. Invoices will be sent out shortly for anyone owing money to the school, but as this is a very time consuming task, we would appreciate your support. Please could you help us by logging into ParentPay this weekend and settling everything that is outstanding. Clubs+ and Breakfast bills are only up to 17th June so if you have used the provision after that, please add extra to cover your costs. The system will be updated by Friday, 1st July

It's also helpful to make sure that you have enough credit on your child's lunch account. (Please note that we will refund any lunch accounts in credit at the end of the term, either by transferring the balance to a sibling or cheque).

Sport
No fixtures next week.

It’s the HT annual Summer Fair tonight and hopefully we’ll avoid the showers and it will be a warm evening – perfect for an ice cold drink from the bar and something from the BBQ. There’ll be a candy wheel, candy floss, ice-cream, jolly jars, beat the goalie and much more. The Fair runs from 6-8pm. Don’t forget your raffle ticket stubs so they can be included in the draw this evening. We look forward to seeing you there.

There will be NO PARKING at school, so please walk if possible. If you do have to drive, please park considerately.

A massive thank you to everyone who has helped so far and will be helping this evening and especially to Cavenders Sales & Lettings who have sponsored our top raffle prize of an Ipad mini for the second year running.

HTPD FUN RUN – SPONSORSHIP REMINDER
