• HTPD GREAT MASQUERADE BALL - TICKETS ON SALE FROM 8.40AM ON FRIDAY 2 FEB

Infant 17/7/15

17 July 2015

Dear Parents,

I so enjoyed the picnic on Wednesday and meeting up with a group of parents afterwards. It is a humbling and moving experience having so many people expressing their gratitude and love. If you haven’t had a chance to say goodbye, I’m sure it would be okay to come along this evening at 7.00 to the chapel. The other event upcoming is the Thanksgiving Service at Holy Trinity Church for years 2-6. There are usually about 75 seats available for parents. I do hope I will be able to see very many of you.

This evening one speaker will be my close friend Canon Derek Holbird, who is the Director of Education for Guildford Diocese. He was once asked to speak at a service for our teachers on the theme of ‘what is heaven like’. This was to tie in with our School value of ‘seeing heaven in the moment’. Derek was previously headteacher of C of E school on Soho Square in London. He told us it was a bit like Soho – full of colour, variety, great food and diversity of people.

After being at Holy Trinity Pewley Down for twenty five years, I think I can say that Heaven is a bit like our school. Not in every way of course-just a few of the myriad shafts of light from a diamond. HTPD is at its frequent best a place filled with joy and laughter, hope and hardwork, compassion and creativity. Where relationships are cherished, there is room to make mistakes as well as to excel and a place where Jesus is at the centre of our thoughts, motivation, values and vision. I am so grateful to God that I have had the joy of being a part of this little bit of heaven and my prayer is that all within the School Community (and that includes those who have ever been a part of it!) will continue to know that God’s presence and love here.

There will be a newsletter on Tuesday where I can say goodbye to you properly.

With best wishes, Richard

Term ends at 1.30 pm on Tuesday 21 July

HTPD Celebration Picnic
We had a lovely celebration picnic up on the downs. Thank you to all who attended and also for being so generous with your cakes. Thank you also to Guildford Borough Council for allowing us to meet as a whole school in such a stunning environment. The GBC representative complimented us on the calm and happy occasion. This is a wonderful resource on our doorstep and we would like to take this opportunity to encourage you to use and enjoy it, but also to consider volunteering with the Pewley Down Volunteers who help with the conservation work. Thank you to the cooks at both sites who worked so hard to make the picnic a great success.

Music Recital
What a wonderful opportunity to see so many children performing in our music recital yesterday. Thank you to Sheena, the music teachers, parents and, most of all, the children for a lovely occasion.

Year 2 Leavers’ Assembly, Monday 20 July, 9.30 am
All Year 2 parents are very welcome to attend the Leavers’ Assembly at 9.30am on Monday. Year 2 will be walking to Holy Trinity Church on Monday afternoon for the 1.30pm service together with children from the juniors.

Library Books
Please return any library or other school books before the end of term.

FOPS

Class Reps for next year
We are looking for class reps for September. We really can't manage without them! The role involves putting together a contact list, arranging occasional coffee mornings and nights out, co-ordinating rotas for the fairs and being a link person between your class and FOPS. You don't have to host coffee mornings at your home - a coffee shop is just as good. It is also not necessary to attend every FOPS meeting. Over the course of your child's time at HTPD, 14 parents from your child's class will have to volunteer for this role so please think about taking a turn if you haven't already. If you can send an email and arrange to meet friends for a coffee you have all the necessary skills! If you would like to become a class rep or get involved in FOPS in any other way, please speak to Nicci, Jill or Emily (emilybourke@msn.com).
