Junior 4/7/14

04 July 2014

Dear Parents,

I wonder if you got a chance to see the dinosaur museum at Pewley Down this Morning? It was fantastic! The children had put a great deal of effort into their models, videos and writing. The art gallery in the hall was also a highlight. A big thank you to all the staff in year two who have led such an imaginative and exciting presentation which not only teaches the children about dinosaurs but also about a wide variety of presentation skills.

School always seems at its very best on warm summer days – as of course we all remember from our own school days. One of my big memories from my primary school, Busbridge in Godalming, was taking part in district sports with a broken arm. I was in the 80 yards, relay and sack race in which I managed an amazing first place. This unfortunately proved to be the pinnacle of my athletic career, the sack now having been dropped from the Olympics!

Yesterday our children took part in the district sports for Guildford at the Urnfield in Merrow. We were victorious in Years 3, 5 and 6 and of course overall winners. I believe we have won the sports every year I have been here – since 1990. This is due in large part to our two games teachers during that time, Nicky Cavalero and Gillian Rodgers.

Gillian recently gained an award for being an inspirational leader of sport in Surrey and it is richly deserved. Her outstanding contribution is not just seen in winning competitions, but also in every child being inspired to participate in sport and form great habits for life.

Best wishes, Richard

School Lunches and Packed Lunches
– Unfortunately there is a significant amount of children who are not eating their sandwiches from their packed lunch. We are becoming increasingly concerned that they will be hungry in the afternoons. May we ask you please to talk to your child/ren about how important the midday meal is and also the waste!

Surrey Youth Games-
Congratulations to all of the children who participated in the Surrey Youth Games. It was a wonderful weekend of sport and it was brilliant to see so many children participating in so many different and varied sports.

Aquathlon - Twenty two of our children took part in an aquathlon at St. Teresa's last week in beautiful surroundings. Everyone really enjoyed their combined swim and run with a few of our children receiving some silverware: Michael Naisby won the year 4 boys, Toby Grimshaw came second, Ayla Darcy came third in the year 4 girls and Eliza Sutton came second in the year 5 girls. Well done to everyone and the team support was outstanding.

Football - World cup fever could be witnessed at the Outdoor Football Tournament at Charterhouse last Friday. Both the year 5 and 6 teams performed really well with the year 6 winning on penalties in the semi-finals and eventually coming runners up and the year 5's winning overall. Both teams gave 100% effort, well done.

District Sports
- We had a super afternoon bathed in sunshine up at the Urnfield yesterday for our District Sports Competition. Lots of wonderful athletics skills were showcased from across the seven Guildford schools involved. Holy Trinity managed to get 1st in Year 3, 3rd in Year 4, 1st in Year 5 and 1st in year 6 and overall winners. Congratulations to everyone for such a brilliant team effort.

School Clubs -Next week will be our last week for school clubs. Paid clubs and clubs plus will carry on as normal.

School Kit - Please could you have a good look around at home and return all school P.E. Kit, thanks.  Also please return any cups or trophies.

Amounts outstanding - There are two and a half weeks to the end of term and still a lot of money outstanding. It helps a great deal to be able to close accounts for the year. We will be phoning people with outstanding amounts over the next days, but please don’t wait to hear from us. Check what you owe on ParentPay and PLEASE pay lunches / clubs up to the end of term. If you haven’t yet activated your ParentPay account – now is the time! Exactly 75% of parents have activated their accounts, which is great. Next term we would like to see this approach 100%.

BUT FOR NOW – PLEASE PAY BY ANY MEANS! Leavers will be refunded any credit (or have it transferred to remaining siblings).Quite a number of Year 6’s have not paid the £18 for Summer Activities including Trinity Trek – perhaps the letter didn’t get to you. THANK YOU SO MUCH TO THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE PAID UP YOUR ACCOUNTS! If you have any queries, please contact Lesley – finance@holytrinity.surrey.sch.uk

Found: We have a pair of brown coloured glasses made by Vision Express. If you think they might be yours, please come to the office.
