HTPD 25/1/19

25 January 2019

Dear Parents and Carers,

How lovely this week to have reflected in our assemblies on Jesus calming the storm. The disciples were terrified and thought they were about to drown, but Jesus was so calm that he took a nap! All of us have benefited from thinking about what causes us to feel stressed, and how we can find calm in the midst of a storm! We’ve also prayed that each of us can find peace, even in troubled seas. I feel so fortunate to be part of this peaceful community where God’s love is shown through so many different family circumstances. Thank you for the part that you play in making our school so full of kindness.

I need to remind everyone please of our no jewellery policy for school uniform. This is so important on grounds of safety throughout the school day and especially for PE. Children shouldn’t wear any jewellery at all when they do PE – it can so easily catch on another child and cause injury both to the wearer and others. This is true too for Fitbits and watches, as well as earrings. If you do decide to have your child’s ears pierced, please wait until the summer holiday (when there’s a six-week window for them to be ready to be removed). Otherwise they have to be taped up which is really tricky.

Watches can of course be worn during the rest of the school day, if your child would like to get some practice at telling the time. It really helps them to organise their day and be on time too! However, please do not allow children to wear smart watches (or any device that can take photographs or receive calls/ texts – such as Moochie watches) to ensure that everyone stays safe. Thank you for your help in supporting our e-safety policy.

This week, some year groups have been gripped by Times Table Rockstar fever! This is a new website that we’ve purchased to support the children learning their times tables (see Tom’s notice below). I have to admit to becoming rather addicted myself - the challenge to improve your own speed is irresistible! And adding extra features to my avatar once I’d collected enough points was also lots of fun. There is definitely a lot of teacher interest in who is going to achieve the Rock Hero status first! I hope the children enjoy it as much as the staff already are! Have a great weekend.

With best wishes, Clare

Thank you to all who made it on Monday to our first meeting of the year!
It was exciting to plan for the rest of the school year and to talk about how we can have fun as a community and make extra money for our school. Last term YOU have helped to raise an amazing £5600 which includes £2750 for the Christmas Fair. So thank you and well done!
So far this year we have bought 2 smart boards and 4 colourful rugs for Reception and Year 1. Next we will be trying to raise money to replace some of the iPads and iPad covers our children are using at school, as some of the iPads are running out of their usable life span.

HTSC

Hello - the end of another week, just how fast is this term going?

We are still looking for a treasurer, so please have a think if you can help us out, this is an essential role. Until we have a treasurer we have been doing the accounts as we go along. So far this year have raised nearly £9,000 so a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who has donated time, bottles, teddies, chocolate, ideas, energy, blood, sweat and tears! None of this would happen without the input of the parent community so thank you all very much. These funds will allow the School Council to provide some exciting new playground equipment and Clare can buy some much needed new musical equipment.

BUT, there is always more to do. We will add in dates as and when we know them (look out for a library fundraiser and ‘how to’ details for Sainsburys and EasyFundraising (if anyone has any experience with either of these schemes we’d love to hear from you) and Phil The Bag.
