HTPD 18/01/19

18 January 2019

Dear Parents and Carers,

At our staff meeting this week, we started to put plans in place for this year’s curriculum week which happens at the end of February. It’s looking like being a really creative and inspiring week – with a focus on each of our school values. During the mornings of the first week after half term, the children will be working beyond their usual class groups to take part in four different learning activities with children in their house. The focus for each of these sessions will be one of each of the following: Embracing the future with hope and confidence, Being treasured and loved as a unique child of God, Imagining the journey in another’s footsteps, and Seeing heaven in the moment. Then in the afternoons, the children will be back with their classmates to focus on “Zest for learning and a love of life”. At the juniors, we’d love to invite in some of our parents who are health professionals to talk to the children about their top tips for healthy living. Do let me know if you’d be happy to take part. Also, note in your diaries that on the Friday afternoon (March 1st) we’ll be inviting parents to come into school for afternoon tea to find out what’s been going on all week. Keep it free if you can.

Congratulations to our Year 3 and Year 4 Sportshall teams this week on their excellent effort at the annual tournament. This event involves over twenty children from each year group working together to gain points across a range of different skills. Huge thanks to our sports teachers for their hard work in preparing and encouraging the children to do so well! And well done to Year 4 on their well-deserved win!

I love writing here about my favourite moment of the week – I hope you enjoy hearing about my varied life as a headteacher! This week, one of my highlights involved dressing up as a character from the traditional tale, Rumpelstiltskin, to bring it all to life for the children in Year 1! They came across the queen from the story, dressed in fine silk dress and scarf and seated in the drizzly rain on the storyteller’s throne at the Wild Place! They seemed convinced – although did tell me later on that she reminded them of me and that she had the same hair and voice! What a great job I have! Seeing all the children so excited about learning was fantastic! Perhaps you’ll enjoy some weekend storytelling – why not retell a story from your own childhood, or from another part of the world, or from your own imagination. My two children always loved stories made up about them – no matter how ordinary the plot line! Have a great weekend.

With best wishes,
Clare

HTSC

Hope you’re all keeping warm!  We’ve had a busy week at HTSC HQ.

We are in process of supplementing the School Council fundraising for the playground with some additional funds - so they can get cracking with adding some additional fun things for break time.  Clare B is busy getting musical instruments and the final whiteboard has been paid for.  So thank you all very much for your hard work in helping, organising and spending over the last term!

So on to this term and more fundraising.  The School Quiz has been confirmed for Saturday 2nd March.  Look out for more details in book bags shortly.  There are cake sales this term - each year has been allocated a date for running the cake sales, so look out for information and calls for help from your reps.  And the really fun, Fun Run has been booked for 19th May - it's at Sutherland Park.  Again more details will follow.  We will send out a ParentMail with all the dates so you can print it out and stick it on the fridge/noticeboard/front door. Whatever works for you.

Y6 Parents have got some exciting plans for raising money to support the Y6 leavers activity.  While the fund-raising supports that specific area, the activity is for the whole school, so look out for events and join in - there’s another Phil The Bag coming up - so save up those old towels and sheets, clothes, shoes, bags (maybe you replaced things in the January Sales?) - the heavier the collection, the more money we make! Plans are a foot for an Easter Hop! There is an HTSC meeting on 6th February 8pm in Rogues - come along and let us know what you think we should be doing.  We are only as good as the suggestions and feedback we receive from you so please take the time to come along and be involved.  No point thinking we are not doing what you want if you don’t tell us!

Just a reminder, if you decided over the Christmas holidays that you’ve had enough of your house and if you want to rent or sell it, choosing Cavenders not only gives you a great chance of selling it but the school gets a commission payment as well.  So maybe give them a call!

 Have a great weekend,

 Sally.

FOPS Coffee Morning
Year 4 coffee morning Friday 1st February at Cafe Nero, 1st Floor, House of Fraser from 9 am. Please put it in your diaries! Class reps hope to see many of you there.
