Junior 17/1/14

17 January 2014

Dear parents

This week year 6 have been looking at the subject of relationships and sex as part of their topic on the human body. This afternoon they will have the joy of meeting Rebecca Plaistowe and her new baby Monty! He is a great little boy and I am sure he will perform well for his first big audience. We are looking forward to Bec re-joining us at half term, next term.

The main purpose of this letter is to talk about the arrangements for Pewley Down when Nicola goes on her maternity leave in March. We are all very excited for Nicola and can’t wait to see the new baby.

Clare Brunet currently working in year 6 will be taking Nicola’s place as Head of School on a temporary basis on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Helen Pronger and I will be the leaders present on Wednesday and Friday. Clare is a highly effective leader who has completed a leadership course at a high level and has had considerable experience of leading at Holy Trinity. She will be spending an increasing amount of time at Pewley over the next couple of months to work alongside Nicola. Please feel free to contact me as soon as she takes over with any concerns you have about your child.

There will be slight changes at Oak Class and 6SC. I will send a Parentmail to the parents of these two classes early next week.

I do hope you have a good weekend.
With best wishes, Richard

ParentPay
Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Poole who were the first to top up Hebe’s lunch money within the hour of the login letters going out! They were closely followed by a number of others so we have got off to a very good start. Hebe’s lunch account has been credited with 2 free lunches by way of a first past the post prize.

We will be including some tips on using ParentPay in the newsletters, so as parent users, if you have any useful tips to contribute do email them to Lesley on finance@holytrinity.surrey.sch.uk

This week’s ParentPay tip: as parent users, you can set up text alerts re your account balance, as well as when new items become payable for your child. These are currently charged at 6 pence each, with a minimum text balance of £2.40. Happy online paying!

Sainsbury’s Active Kids vouchers will be available to collect between 29 January and 20 May. Please remember us when you shop and let’s try to collect more than last year!

House Music
There will be a performance to Houses on Tuesday, 28 January.

Mad March Ball - Auction Items Needed
At the Mad March Ball on 8 March, we will be holding an auction. If it is to be as successful as the last auction in 2011 (which raised £10,500 for the school), we NEED YOUR HELP!

We have already had some fantastic offers from parents but we still need more auction items if we are to meet our target. We know you are a talented lot! Please have a think about any talents or skills you have which you could offer for us to auction. For example, do you play an instrument or speak a foreign language or coach a sport or have a talent for garden / home design? Also, do you know of anyone with a holiday home for use or a local business or employer who might be able to donate an item for auction or provide sponsorship. Do you have any links to professional sport or the world of entertainment? Please put your thinking caps on and, if there's anything you can contribute, contact Ros Vickerman (jrvickerman@yahoo.co.uk). We need to have the final details of all prizes by 31 January so please could any offers be made by then.

Thank you for your support which will benefit our school.

STOP PRESS - Mad March Ball Tickets on sale Tuesday 21 January!
Tickets for the Mad March Ball go on sale this Tuesday on a first come, first served basis. Previously, tickets for this event have sold out very quickly, so if you would like to go, don't delay and hand in your ticket application to the School Office quickly. (Application forms will not be accepted before Tuesday). The application form was sent by Parentmail this week or is available to download from the school website. Due to limited availability the event is for parents/partners and teachers of children currently at the school. You can purchase single tickets or, if you prefer, put together a table of 10. If you have bought individual tickets and would like to sit on a table with other parents from your class/year, please contact your class reps once you have your tickets and they will try to ensure you are seated with friends.

Years 5 & 6 Cake Sale
We will be holding a cake sale for Years 5 & 6 on Friday 24 January so please send in cakes/biscuits, things like fairy cakes/flapjacks etc. No nuts please. At recent cake sales we have been short on cakes so please do try and send cakes in on Friday so that there are enough to go around.

The cakes are sold to the children during school time in the afternoon. Each cake costs 25p so we suggest you send your child in with 50p - £1.00. If you want your container returned please mark clearly - they will be left at the bottom of the ramp for collection.

We are also looking for helpers on the day, from 1:15 we need a few people to set up and then sell the cakes, if there are any cakes left over we sell them after school. Offers of help to Lesley Wood at uniform@holytrinity.surrey.sch.uk
