Infant 17/1/14

17 January 2014

Dear parents

This week year 6 have been looking at the subject of relationships and sex as part of their topic on the human body. This afternoon they will have the joy of meeting Rebecca Plaistowe and her new baby Monty! He is a great little boy and I am sure he will perform well for his first big audience. We are looking forward to Bec re-joining us at half term, next term.

The main purpose of this letter is to talk about the arrangements for Pewley Down when Nicola goes on her maternity leave in March. We are all very excited for Nicola and can’t wait to see the new baby.

Clare Brunet currently working in year 6 will be taking Nicola’s place as Head of School on a temporary basis on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Helen Pronger and I will be the leaders present on Wednesday and Friday. Clare is a highly effective leader who has completed a leadership course at a high level and has had considerable experience of leading at Holy Trinity. She will be spending an increasing amount of time at Pewley over the next couple of months to work alongside Nicola. Please feel free to contact me as soon as she takes over with any concerns you have about your child.

There will be slight changes at Oak Class and 6SC. I will send a Parentmail to the parents of these two classes early next week.

I do hope you have a good weekend.
With best wishes, Richard

Teacher-led clubs
Letters about teacher-led clubs went out in book bags earlier in the week. Clubs start on Tuesday 21 January.

Assembly
This week we are focussing on the spirit of goodness and will be trying really hard to be quiet in assembly.

Spare clothes
We are running very short of spare tights and boys’ and girls’ socks. If your child has borrowed clothes from the office please could you return them and if anyone has any spare or outgrown tights or socks we would love to receive them.

Lost
Ona Cashmore has misplaced her Keller sweatshirt – named ‘Ethan Cashmore’. She has also lost her white plaited headband (not named).

Menu for week beginning Monday 20 January

Goldfish – free to a good home
Three small goldfish (Ringo, Paul and John – sadly George is no more) are looking for a new home. They are available with their small tank including filter, gravel etc or alternatively could be added to your own aquarium or pond. Please contact the school office: 01483 570038.

Auction Items Needed
At the Mad March Ball on 8 March, we will be holding an auction. If it is to be as successful as the last auction in 2011 (which raised £10,500 for the school), we NEED YOUR HELP! We have already had some fantastic offers from parents but we still need more auction items if we are to meet our target. We know you are a talented lot! Please have a think about any talents or skills you have which you could offer for us to auction. For example, do you play an instrument or speak a foreign language or coach a sport or have a talent for garden / home design? Also, do you know of anyone with a holiday home for use or a local business or employer who might be able to donate an item for auction or provide sponsorship. Do you have any links to professional sport or the world of entertainment? Please put your thinking caps on and, if there's anything you can contribute, contact Ros Vickerman (jrvickerman@yahoo.co.uk). We need to have the final details of all prizes by 31 January so please could any offers be made by then. Thank you for your support which will benefit our school.

Are you booking your summer holiday?
Please think about booking via easyfundraising.org.uk and choosing Friends of Pewley Down Infant School, Guildford as your cause to support. Most the big travel companies, airlines and car rental companies (Thomson, First Choice, Virgin, Haven, Easyjet, Eurocamp, Premier Inn, Disneyland, Cottages4you etc.) will donate a percentage of your holiday price to your chosen cause. Ferry companies and airport parking seem to offer particularly generous donation rates of up to 8%. This is a hassle free way to raise significant amounts of money to support school projects.
