Infant 18/1/13

18 January 2013

Dear Parents,

I’m writing this newsletter on Monday as we were rather overtaken by snowy events on Friday.

It was so good that everyone was picked up by 2.30 p.m. by the latest and most by 1 p.m. I’m pleased that the website, email and texting proved a good way to cover everyone. It also shows how important it is to keep us up to date with mobile numbers and email addresses.

We continue in our quest to be excellent in communication, and to this end we have opened a Twitter account this weekend. Our Twitter address is @HTPDSchool. We hope that this will develop into a really useful and fun way to keep in touch. It will probably take a couple of weeks to bed-in, but keep looking. We hope many parents will follow us!

The really exciting news is that the Chapel is very nearly finished and due to be handed over on Wednesday afternoon, (this may be put back till Friday due to snow delays). Although it is called the Chapel, it will also be a theatre, a dance studio, a year group meeting room, a dodge ball court, a cinema, a concert hall, a gymnasium and many other things! We also hope that it will be used by churches and by the community. The space will be useable immediately, but we still have several important extras to be funded. The first of these is a sprung wooden floor. The HTSC have kindly offered to collect funds for this. We are looking for some people to join a group to put on an opening event. This could be a ball or something similar. We hope this will be in May. Please let know if you can help.

With best wishes,
Richard

Mathletics

Hopefully over the holidays you have had a chance to look at the Mathletics website; it really does help children develop their maths skills. Yesterday we also had an exciting Mathletics assembly, so ask your child what they discovered about it. If you haven’t already done so, please send in your £5 (in a marked envelope to the office) to cover the cost of Mathletics. All the children are subscribed for the year but should you not wish to be involved please let Tracey know (traceyd@holytrinity.surrey.sch.uk). Also, please let your child’s teacher know how it’s going and if you have any questions.

New dates for your diary:
Thursday 7 February, 5.15-6.00pm – Bedtime Story
Monday 11 - Wednesday 13 March, mornings – Curriculum Trail (11th – Year 2, 12th – Year 1, 13th – Year R)
Information about these events will follow nearer the time.

Parents’ Evening change of date
The Parents’ Evenings will now take place on Wednesday 6 and Thursday 7 March (and not on 5 March as previously advised).

Sickness
We have already had few cases of sickness in school this term. If your child is suffering from a tummy bug please keep them at home for 48 hours after the last incidence of vomiting or diarrhoea to ensure that they are well enough to return and to help stop the spread of infection.

FOPS NEWS

The next FOPS meeting will be on Monday 28 January at 8.00 pm in the staff room.  All very welcome!

Lost

Thomas Edwards, Walnut, has lost his black school shoes size 12 1/2 G with 2 velcro straps.  They are named on the tongue and on a sticker on the base.  Thomas came home wearing a similar pair of shoes in size 12H.  Please could parents in Year 2 check that their child is wearing their own shoes.
