HTPD 15/2/19

15 February 2019

Dear Parents and Carers,

By the time you read this newsletter, we’ll have hopefully enjoyed another successful Fluffy Friday! It’s always such a fun day in school, packed full of learning experiences which help to develop character – thank you so much for helping out, and for sending in your £1 coins to make it happen. I’m sure you’ll want to join me in thanking our staff for once again giving so much energy and enthusiasm to creating such important memories for your children. With our week’s theme focused on being thankful, it’s been lovely to hear so many grateful children remembering to say thank you to both staff and parent volunteers. Do let us know if your child gained something particularly beneficial from the day; we love to gather proof that all that extra effort makes a difference. And please do remember to complete the
parent survey. Thank you to those who were quick off the mark and have done it already! We really do value your comments and suggestions.

Remember that when we come back on Monday 25th February, we go straight into a special week of activities focused on our school values. We’re calling this “Learn to Live Week”. At both sites, the children will be taking part in house activities during the morning sessions (Mon-Thurs at HT, and Tues-Fri at PD). Each of these different days will have one of our school values as its theme.
At the juniors, in order to maximise the possibilities for “Seeing heaven in the Moment,” each house will have a morning off site visiting the Downs and the Chantries Woods. They will need to wear suitable footwear and bring a packed lunch on this day (Mandela Monday, Shackleton Tuesday, Keller Wednesday, Nightingale Thursday).

On Friday 1st March we would like to invite parents/carers of our junior children to come in between 1.15 and 2pm to visit their child’s class and see some of the problem solving activities that they have been working on during the afternoon sessions. Then at 2pm there will be a short workshop (with tea and cake!) for parents to attend which will be in the Chapel and will finish by 2.45. This will be on internet safety and building children’s independence. It will be particularly relevant for junior school parents, but all are welcome. We will finish in time for Pewley pick up at 3pm.

The plans for the week are looking wonderful – it’ll be a great way to start back after a break! I do hope you’ll have a restful half term holiday.

With best wishes,
Clare

Thought of the week: The Magic of Thankfulness – what should you say thank you for?

HTSC News

Quick update from HTSC today!

If you have received a letter asking for contact details, please can you fill it in and return to us, via the office. We desperately need the last few contact details so we have a full list! Your reps can’t get hold of you with info about socials and when they need help

We have an idea of turning part of the playground noticeboard into a for sale noticeboard with a suggested 10% of the sale price going to the HTSC. What do you think? Good idea? Great way to sell on those bikes/scooters/buggies etc that you have in the garage

We also are struggling for volunteers. We know that the parent community is changing and lots more of us work now than ever before. It was suggested at the last HTSC meeting that each year group picks a couple of events each year they are responsible for running. What do you think of that? Share the load?

Diary reminders
HTSC meetings - 13th March and 8th May
Quiz Night - tickets available now for 2 March, with a curry!
Fun Run - 19th May. Sutherland Park up by Sainsburys

And watch out for serial very soon of a fundraiser especially for the Library. Again supported by Cavenders who help us out with prizes and can help you out with selling or renting out your house.

Have a happy half term!

Are you a young person who helps look after someone and are you between the ages of 5-18?  If so, this event is for you and your family.
The Mayor of Guildford, Councillor Mike Parsons is organising a Festival of Fun for young carers at Clandon Park on Sunday, 7 April in partnership with the Rotary Club of Guildford District and Carers Trust.
Within the Innovation Zone, Performance Zone and Refreshment Zone there will be plenty to keep you entertained and refreshed, and we are planning some exciting sporting activities too - there really will be something for everyone!  It promises to be a fantastic opportunity for young people with caring responsibilities to have a fun day out with their families and the Mayor hopes it will attract as many young carers and their families as possible.
Register for the Festival of Fun - Please complete the registration form if you wish to come along to the Festival of Fun. The form should be completed by a parent, guardian or school representative and should include all members of the family attending. Registration costs £5.
