HTPD 3/2/17

03 February 2017

Dear Parents,

It’s been another busy week at school. I hope you enjoy hearing what your children have been getting up to. Do keep a close eye on the JTLYK pages that each year group team writes every week. They provide such a good conversation starter with your children about what they have been working on in school, as well as giving plenty of suggestions about how you can support learning at home. There are also helpful reminders there.

Thanks to all the parents who helped to ferry our science teams across to Glebelands School in Cranleigh for the annual science challenge this week. Teams from Year 1-6 took part and competed against other primary schools. There was some super scientific thinking and problem-solving going on – as well as great team work!

We are starting to look ahead to the second half of term and James, our English leader, wanted to give you all the opportunity to get excited about our special book week which takes place at both sites in the first week after the holidays. He writes:
“Book week is back! The first week after half term will be four, fun filled days of challenging and creative activities, wrapped up in the world of books! Our theme this year is Myths and Legends and the children will be in their houses all week, learning collaboratively with children from each year group. There will be four unique days which cover maths, active learning, English and science and each day is inspired by a particular legend or area of mythology.”

Speaking of books, it was marvellous to see how keen our Year 5 children were to visit the infants this week to present the children in Year 2 with their own Bible. Each Bible was inscribed with the child’s name as well as with one of our school values. The older children loved reading their favourite story to the children in Year 2. It was a really lovely sight.

Do remember next Tuesday is National Internet Safety Day – Tom will be leading a discussion in the Chapel from 2.15pm which will be particularly relevant to Year 5 and 6 parents, but all would be welcome. Please take the opportunity to chat to your children about staying safe online. Ask them what they have learnt in school on that day.

And then it will be Fluffy Friday – what a great way to end this half of term. Remember to bring in £1 to help resource this fun activity day.

With best wishes, Clare

Sainsbury's Gift Card Scheme
We have an immediate vacancy to run the Sainsbury's gift card scheme, which is a very satisfying job as it raises around £2,000 for HTSC each year. It takes approximately 1-1.5 hours per month to maintain the scheme with a few extra hours to finalise accounts with the HTSC Treasurer at the end of the year. Please contact Carrie Witts (carriewitts@gmail.com) or Ros Vickerman (jrvickerman@yahoo.co.uk) if you are interested in taking this on – thank you in advance!
