HTPD 10/2/17

10 February 2017

Dear Parents

As we reach the milestone that is the half term break, I’ve been reflecting on all the different ways that parents have been involved in the life of the school. We are so grateful that our school community is thriving and that links between home and school are strong. Thank you for supporting so many different events; the huge number of families represented at the recent “Stay and Play” in Year R was a superb example of this partnership and Year 1’s art show was also really well supported. Year 2 children have been thrilled to have parents coming in to talk about their travel adventures. Our international coffee morning at Pewley was also really helpful; to hear about new ways that we can better communicate and support learning at home. We see the benefit of this support all the time – for instance, this year’s Baffling Bodies home-work projects in Year 6 were fabulous! At the juniors, Year 6 were so lucky to have a parent who happens to be a surgeon demonstrate the anatomy of the heart, and then there are all the sporting events that couldn’t happen without parent taxis. We also rely so much on your extra help for school trips and Fluffy Fridays! Of course, there are also all the other ways that you all help out in the classrooms….and without FOPS and HTSC we’d miss out on great social events, and be so much less able to afford so many things. Thank you! (Make sure you book your tickets for the legendary quiz that follows book week on Saturday 25th).

I’m sure you saw the announcement on Twitter earlier in the week – the infant school was awarded the 3-star mark by Active Surrey for our amazing sports provision. This is due in large part to the wonderful work of Julia Brown, our specialist sports teacher, as well as to the inspirational dedication of the whole staff in ensuring that all the children have so many different sporting opportunities. It’s lovely to see their efforts recognised – and super to know that both infant and junior staff have now been praised for their commitment to promoting an active, healthy lifestyle.

Other events this week included a visit to Year 2 from some international students from Guildford College, a day out at the Winchester science museum Intech for Year 5, the internet safety day, Bedtime stories for the infants, and of course Fluffy Friday. No wonder the children look like they need a holiday! I hope that after all the excitement of this first half of the Spring Term, you all enjoy a relaxing half term break! See you on Tuesday 21st February for another exciting book week themed around Myths and Legends. The children will be working in their houses and can wear their house t-shirts as part of their normal school uniform if they would like to. Remember the Monday is an INSET day!

With best wishes
Clare
