• HTPD GREAT MASQUERADE BALL - TICKETS ON SALE FROM 8.40AM ON FRIDAY 2 FEB

HTPD 1/12/17

01 December 2017

Dear parents

With the Christmas fair happening tonight, and with the first of December arriving, I can officially celebrate with you the start of Advent. The children are working hard to rehearse the Christmas plays at both sites and the schools are starting to look festive! Do make sure you arrange tickets to come along to our productions. They’re sure to be really fun! Advent is a favourite season of mine – I enjoy the “looking forward to” almost as much as the actual festival of Christmas. We will be marking the Advent season in assemblies by lighting candles on an Advent wreath with each candle representing different aspects of the Christmas story – we start on Monday with hope. This follows this past week when we have reminded the children of the hope that comes after forgiveness.

During Advent we will be attempting to twin our remaining toilets! It’s a good time to remember that there are many people in the world not as fortunate as us. Those of you that were here last year will remember that our Advent charity supported an amazing charity which raises funds to build toilets in the developing world by “twinning” toilets in this country. We raised an amazing amount last year, but we do still have a way to go! Do take a look at the website, www.toilettwinning.org and send donations into either office. The children may also like to think of ways to raise money at home by helping out around the house, organising a cake sale for friends and neighbours or raiding their piggy banks. Every penny will make a real difference. I’ll keep you posted about how close we are to twinning the last remaining toilets!

It’s great to see how much the children are enjoying their topics. Year 5 today are enjoying Tudor day, with jesters, musicians, artists and cooks preparing a banquet for Queen Elizabeth 1. These special days make the learning throughout the term really purposeful and the children’s subject knowledge about different aspects of the national curriculum is really impressive. Do ask your child what they know now that they didn’t know at the start of the term. Throughout the school, children have become real experts, whether it’s Viking life in early Britain, toys through the ages, or the challenge of preserving the natural splendour of Antarctica. We’re so proud of all that they have learned.

Hope to see you at the junior school fair tonight.

With best wishes
Clare

Christmas Play Tickets
This is a reminder to all parents who have not submitted forms for play tickets. Please get your forms with an envelope with child's name and class (for return of tickets) as soon as possible. To make life a bit easier I have left some hard copies of the form with some envelopes and a pen on the Office counter so that you can fill them in during the fair this evening. There will be a labelled box to put the forms into. I will collect over the weekend. For those waiting for spare tickets I will issue these on Thursday next week.

Creative Writing
The time of Christmas parties is drawing near. As we are a huge group I am going to split the club in two for the last weeks of term. Next week there is a session for children in Nightingale and Shackleton during which we will have a “bring and share” party. The theme will be any Christmas story. This will be the last session of the term. For children in Keller and Mandella their party will be the following week (play week). To participate in these sessions you will need to have been turning up regularly this term.
Because of the large numbers attending Creative Writing I am dividing the club next term. For the first half term Creative Writing will be only for Years 3 and 4. After half term only years 5 and 6 will be allowed. If there are siblings who would be split by this then you can choose which half you want both to come to, so that they can stay together; but they can only do one.
