21 December 2016

Dear Parents,

Thank you so much for your support, generosity and kind words as the term comes to an end. The whole staff have felt appreciated and loved, so thank you. I wish you all a very happy Christmas and hope that you and your families enjoy a lovely break!

The children will be starting back to school on Wednesday 4th January with the staff working together the day before, looking at ways to develop playtimes as well as planning another inspirational book week for later next term.

Praying that you will all know God’s love at this special time of year.

With best wishes
Clare

Junior Club Lists for Spring 2017 - updated 3 January 2017

HTPD 16/12/16

16 December 2016

Dear Parents,

What a fabulous week of Christmas shows! I’ve loved seeing all the children perform so enthusiastically – and I am overwhelmed by your generosity; we have raised over £1200 for Shooting Star Chase. Our school values have been shining brightly from the stage as the children performed so brilliantly – a real zest for learning and love of life, as well as that hope and confidence to embrace the future!

Now that the plays are over, we are enjoying celebrating the joy of Christmas – we’ve enjoyed Christmas dinner and then next Tuesday all the children will be taking part in their carol services, with “Carols around the Tree” in the morning at the infants and the juniors at Holy Trinity church in the afternoon. You would be welcome to join us at either occasion.

It does now feel as if the term is close to an end. We are very sorry to be saying goodbye to Sian – and of course do wish her every success in her future adventure. She has been such a creative star at Holy Trinity Pewley Down working across the whole school, bringing so many artistic and musical talents to her role, but above all overflowing with kindness and love, influencing so many children’s lives for good. We say a huge thank you to her.

As the countdown to Christmas gets into single figures, I do wish you all a very happy time of celebration and pray that you each find deep meaning from the story of God being born as a baby…as the curious sheep found out and exclaimed through each of the Pewley nativity performances, “That’s not curious, that’s wonderful!” I hope you share that wonder.

Happy Christmas!
With best wishes, Clare

Pewley Christmas Fair
A huge thank you to everyone who came along and supported the Christmas Fair last Sunday - it was great to see everyone have such a great time and truly get into the festive spirit! The success of the fair really depends on the whole school community coming together, and tackling jobs such as labelling tombolas, folding raffle tickets to tirelessly cooking chips, sausages and running stalls on the day. The event always has a real buzz about it as a result! This year, we’re delighted to say that we raised an amazing £2,650. Thank you so much!!

Silent Auction
We are also delighted to say that the Silent Auction alone raised in excess of £450 - a brilliant result and massive thanks goes to the hardworking team that pulled the prizes together and all who bid so generously!! 09 December 2016

Dear Parents,

We are now drawing near to the end of our assembly series on heroes. One of the key messages has been to encourage us all to think of others and make a difference in the world, “To imagine the journey in another’s footsteps”. Looking forward to Christmas, we will consider how God the Father gave the world His Son, Jesus, and how Jesus himself lived a life of self-sacrifice. Thinking about this is having a profound impact on the children and having a practical outworking too; I’m sure you’ll be glad to hear that we have raised enough money to twin another six toilets. This is thanks in part to the successful sale of Tim Burgess’ hero poems that we’ve enjoyed him reciting each week during assembly at the juniors. Do keep sending in your donations so that the final total is something the children can feel very proud of.

With next week being “play week” at both sites, we are very aware that the children will become tired. To provide an opportunity to catch up on much needed sleep, we have arranged an optional late start next Friday morning (16th). If it is convenient for you, the children can arrive in school any time up to 10.30am. At the juniors we will have an extended Christmas assembly in the hall, and at the infants the children can go straight to their class rooms.

Every year at our Christmas shows, once we have covered costs, we also raise money to give away to a good cause. This year, in memory of Gill Barraclough, our much loved school cook, we will be performing to support the local children’s hospice, Shooting Star Chase. This was Gill’s chosen charity and one that provides amazing care for local children. If you want to look up more details about what they do, check out their website www.shootingstarchase.org.uk – many local families, including some of our own, benefit from their wonderful work. We don’t charge for tickets to watch the show, but we are always delighted by your generosity at the performances. Thank you in advance – the rehearsals have been going well and both shows are going to be a fantastic memory maker. I look forward to seeing many of you in the audience!

With best wishes
Clare

02 December 2016

Dear parents

The school is “alive with the sound of music”! With rehearsals now well underway for the junior school production and the infants preparing for their show too, the sound of singing is in the air. Both shows are going to be so much fun – for the audiences, but even more so for the children.

On top of that, today we have enjoyed our annual Music Medley. Earlier in the week, each house at the juniors was entertained by a whole range of musical talent with a small selection of children being asked to perform in front of the whole school today. Meanwhile at the infants, the children will today meet in their house groups to enjoy a concert together with time to explore percussion and sing. Performing in front of others is such a positive learning experience – it builds self-esteem, helps to overcome nervousness and instils a sense of pride in bringing so much pleasure to others. It also makes all the hard work of learning an instrument or practising a song worthwhile!

I’m looking forward to seeing many of you at the junior school Christmas fair tonight – as I write there is a happy buzz in school with parents busily getting things ready. We really are lucky to have so much support and I’d like to say a huge thank you for the HTSC committee who generously give of their time and talents. Every pound raised impacts on the children’s experience here at school and makes such a difference, but the sense of community created by events like this is also very powerful.

Finally, do please send in your “Toilet Twinning” (contributions
www.toilettwinning.org), marking the envelope with your child’s year group. The children are showing such empathy and concern for our Advent charity and are excited to see which year will twin the most toilets.

With best wishes, Clare
