Junior 7/12/12

07 December 2012

Dear parents

We are right in the middle of our two Christmas productions at our two sites. The ‘Demise & Rise of Ebenezer Scrooge’ is finished and ‘Doorways to Christmas’ is about to begin. They both tell great stories; Dickens’ Christmas Carol gives us the message that we are all able to be redeemed and change is possible. The Christmas Story shows us how, through God becoming a person, we are able to have the power to make that change.

We are pleased that our children are getting these life messages across to all of us. I really loved the Junior’s play with its reworking of A Christmas Carol as a reality television show. I am so looking forward to the exciting new concept of the Infant’s where we move with the action to experience the Nativity. I hope that we will all experience the wonder and joy of Christmas this Advent time.

With best wishes
Richard

Events Next Week
• Comenius visitors arrive Monday 10th December for 1 week
• Year 4 Invaders’ Market in the Hall - Tuesday, 11th December at 2.00pm
• Christmas Lunch – Thursday 13th December
• Year 3 – Carols & Kindling Thursday 13th 5-6.30pm in the hall

Important
To avoid confusion, can we please confirm that it is NOT Mufti for Holy Trinity on Wednesday and Thursday next week.  This is for Pewley Down only and is an event relating to their Christmas play.  HT children should wear school uniform as usual.

Rounders Club
There will be no more Rounders Club until after Christmas.  Look out for dates in the New Year!

Year 3 Carols & Kindling
Please can the children remember to bring their wellingtons and large carrier bags as they will be needed when the children collect kindling on Tuesday 11th. We look forward to seeing all Year 3 parents on Thursday 13th between 5-6.30 for carols, mulled wine, mince pies and kindling sales in the school hall.

Comenius Visitors
We are part of a Comenius Project in which we have 5 partner schools in Europe. Teachers and children from these 5 schools are coming to visit us next week. 15 children from Spain, Iceland and Turkey will be staying with some of our Year 6 families and teachers from all those countries plus teachers from Italy will also be staying for the week.

Splash and Dash
We had some festive fun in the GHS Splash and Dash yesterday with 27 girls from across Years 3 and 4 competing in a mini biathlon. The girls had to go dressed as Christmas decorations so inspiration came from amongst our parents and girls and they went as a set of Christmas lights, they looked fantastic and very novel! There was some lovely running and swimming and medals were awarded to Ayla Darcy for a spectacular run edged on the line for second place, Tilly Gough, Freya Clift and Olivia Charles. Lots of fun was had by all, well done.

Pick-up from fixtures and events
We are extremely fortunate to have fantastic parental support which allows our children to participate in such a varied range of activities. May we please politely remind parents that children should not leave fixtures until the adult in charge has been notified and that other parents do not helpfully take home other children without prior permission. Thank you for your continued support.

School sports kit
Whilst you are doing that Christmas sort out... it would be great to get back any school kit prior to the end of term in order that we can audit it, thanks.

Headlice
Unfortunately we have heard from families across the school that headlice have been found in their child’s hair. Please check your child every day and treat as appropriate. See NHS website for treatment information.

School Uniform
We have seen lots of children over the last few weeks wearing ‘heelie’ shoes. These are not suitable for school and can be very dangerous. Can you please ensure that your child wears the correct footwear for their own comfort and safety.

Sainsburys Donation

Representatives of the school council visited Sainsburys on Tuesday to collect a cheque for £500 for new playground equipment. They are now excitedly planning what to buy! Thank you to Sainsburys. See website for photos.

Mount Alvernia, Tuesday 11 December
We have been advised that there will be another big concrete pour at Mount Alvernia next Tuesday starting at 8.00 am and continuing throughout the day. This may mean that there is increased traffic on Harvey Road that day although Mount Alvernia will have workmen on the road for traffic management. There will also be a smaller pour on Thursday 13 December.

Thank you!
Thank you very much to everyone who supported our recent Poppy Appeal.  We raised a total of £44.43!
