Junior 14/12/12

14 December 2012

Dear Parents,

The Infant Nativity was a huge success. The weather was very cold, crisp and dry. Turquoise travellers, green shepherds and shiny angels shone out from the hillside behind the school. ‘Away in a Manger’ was sung at the crib and parents and grandparents smiled with real joy at the wonder and beauty of the scene. But why is this experience being shared right across the country and in most schools and churches? It is even at the heart of the film ‘Nativity’ - which our children watched as part of their Christmas treat. Well it is a tradition of course and we all remember back to our faltering or confident performances when we were the third king or a humble shepherd or even a dancing sheep! I hope and believe that it is also because it celebrates and reminds us of the greatest event in history when God became a person and lived amongst us so that we could restore a right relationship with God.

So we look forward to more Nativities and Christmas celebrations, which are always one of the most important things we do in our annual calendar.

This week we also welcomed Comenius guests from Iceland, Turkey, Spain and Italy. All, except Italy, also bought students with them. They joined in our Christmas celebrations and joined our families for accommodation. This continues to be a great way of bringing different cultures together. All our children now realise much more that we are part of a global family. I hope that this co-operation and programme will long continue.

With best wishes, Richard
