HTPD 29/4/16

29 April 2016

Dear parents,

I’ve had a chance this week to admire the beautiful work being produced across the school. Several children have shown me their excellent poems, biographies, letters and stories, and proudly explained what they had done to make their writing such high quality. It’s great to see how much progress the children are making – the displays up around both schools are also stunning so do take time to have a look!

We are keen to make sure you feel confident in how teachers help children to move their learning forward. To that end we have planned an evening meeting later in May (7pm, Tuesday May 17th) so that we can explain our assessment approach. It will take place in the Chapel at the junior school and is for parents from all year groups, although will probably be most relevant for parents with children in Years 1 – 5.

The children at the infants are doing well on the “Run to Rio” clocking up the miles – it’s great to have a goal! It was also lovely to see some of our youngest children in the school taking part in their first inter-school athletics event and I was delighted to hear about the success of our Year 6 tag rugby team, being awarded the “Fair Play” Award at the county finals for demonstrating the best attitude throughout the tournament. Meanwhile, the numbers of children taking part in extracurricular clubs is astonishing! Thank you to all of our teachers for running so many activities, and to the children for contributing so enthusiastically to our whole school ethos of learning beyond the classroom. It makes HTPD such a vibrant community!

I hope you all enjoy the long weekend.
With best wishes, Clare

Admissions 2016 – Year R and Year 3
The deadline for accepting or declining offers of places for Year R or Year 3 for this September is next Tuesday 3 May.

INFANT

Sainsbury’s Active Kids
This is the last week that Sainsbury’s will be offering the Active Kids vouchers. Please bring in any vouchers that you may still have at home - the collection box is just outside the hall near the school office.

Waitrose green tokens
The Waitrose Guildford store has accepted us as one of their local fundraising groups for May. This means that every time you shop in Waitrose you can put a green disc in the appropriate container and we will then receive a proportion of £1000 at the end of the month. We are planning to put the money towards the outdoor music classroom.

CowParade
CowParade, the world’s largest public art event, is coming to Surrey.  Primary schools have been offered the chance to get involved with calf-sized versions called Mini Moos.  Kokomo, the new cocktail bar in Guildford, has very kindly sponsored a Mini Moo for Pewley Down.  It will be decorated by the children in Year R and, at the end of the summer, it will be auctioned off to raise funds for the School. It will be unveiled, for all parents to see, at Kokomo (located opposite the Yvonne Arnaud theatre www.kokomobars.co.uk/#about-us) on 9 June from 7.30pm.  We hope that all mums, dads and staff can join us and have a really good night supporting this fun fundraiser for school. If you would like to find out more about CowParade Surrey visit www.cowparadesurrey.com
