HTPD 15/4/16

15 April 2016

Dear Parents,

What a difference a bit of sunshine makes! The whole school has enjoyed this first week of term and both children and teachers have made the most of the beautiful weather. Year 2 were amazed to discover dinosaur bones in their archaeological dig at the Wild Place, Year 5 began summer sports with a fabulous tennis lesson, all the infants have started clocking up miles in their “Run to Rio” challenge to mark this year’s Olympics and the juniors have been excited to see the newly developed outside space. I’m sure all of these outdoor experiences have a great impact on the children’s learning and their wellbeing.

We’re concentrating on wellbeing and happiness this term in our assembly series. The focus comes from Jesus’ words in Matthew 5, The Sermon on the Mount which are known as the Beatitudes. This is Jesus’ way of reminding us of how to live happy with typical HTPD humour, we’ve renamed them “The Bee-attitudes” and are looking forward to learning from that wonderfully industrious insect, the honey bee. Do take a look at the slideshows on our website; they give a flavour of all the different assembly aspects. Each classroom’s Thoughtful Spot is now covered with gold cloth, matching this term’s colour theme. The gold reminds us of the sweetness of honey, the value of happiness and the extravagant blessing of God’s love.

There are so many exciting events planned this term, with residential trips, days out as well as sports days and end of year celebrations; do keep a close eye on your year group’s JTLYKs for up to date reminders and information.
I hope the sunshine continues into the weekend so that we can all take some time outdoors to live out our school value of “seeing heaven in the moment”! Enjoy it!

With best wishes,
Clare

FOPS News

Welcome back to the summer term!

Firstly, a thank you to M&S for making a donation towards the children’s Easter Egg hunt at the end of last term.

During the first week of the holiday, Young at Heart Yoga (Emily Young), ran a Family Yoga Workshop and kindly donated all the proceeds to FOPS.

Thank you to everyone who brought in their Phil the Bag donations. We will let you know how much this generated for the school in the coming weeks.

Bake ‘n’Stroll Saturday 23rd April.
We hope you received the information about this upcoming event in your child’s book bag.
For the bake we are looking forward to lots of entries in our Bake Off competition. There are three categories; Kids Cakes and Cookies (with minimal help from a grown up), Dads’ Delicacies and Mums’ Masterpieces. Please bring your entries to the school hall between 1 pm and 1:45 pm on Saturday 23rd March. The competition will be judged by a cake expert and the winners announced at the end. It is a condition of entry that Bakers let us sell their cakes to hungry strollers.

The stroll will start from the school back playground at 2 pm. Follow the trail around Pewley Down to find the Dragon Eggs and crack the secret code. We will do our best to make the course buggy friendly, but come prepared for a bit of outdoor fun in any weather.

It costs £5 per family to enter the stroll and at the end enjoy a free cup of tea or squash and the opportunity to buy a tasty slice from the Bake Off entries.
