Year 6 visit to Wisley

15 September 2014

Year 6 had a great day at RHS Wisley as part of our topic on plants and their habitats. We visited the different biomes within the glasshouses and found out how different plants have adapted to different climates. We were fascinated by the succulents, especially the cacti; we were amazed to find out that the spines on a prickly cactus are really the leaves that have adapted to the very dry conditions in which they grow. In the tropical biome we saw how effective a drip-tip is at draining excess water from the leaves of plants. We also found out how to take a cutting from a plant and potted up our own Tradescantia, which we then took back to school.
